This annual Empire State Fellowship ministry, held each year in March, focuses on Bible teaching, practical workshops and relevant praise and worship geared to teens. Over 1,200 young people attend these Friday/Saturday seminars, which are held in four locations simultaneously across New York state.
Our Speaker at the Western NY location (Marilla) will be Mel Walker an author, speaker, teacher, veteran ministry and church leader, and currently serves as President at Vision for Youth (an international network for youth ministry) and the director of BBC&S Alumni church relations.
The theme for Youth Seminars 2014 is "LEGIT: True Friendship" taken from the theme Bible verse Prov. 17:17 "A friend loves at all times"
Register now for the early-bird price of $30 per person (includes t-shirt for first 1,000 registrants, 3 meals, workshops & main sessions)
There will be 9 workshop options to go to, all of which are taught by exciting youth leaders who challenge the teens to grow in their faith and friendships. Each teen chooses 3 workshops that they wish to attend.
1. MY FRIENDS AND I MAKE EACH OTHER BETTER!
You and your friends can make each other better! You can provide accountability, encouragement, and positive peer pressure. Learn how to be an accountability partner. (27:17)
2. SPEAKING TRUTH WITHOUT LOSING FRIENDS
We want to influence unbelievers toward Christ. We do it well when we represent Christ accurately. We rightly place high priority on what we say. We should also place high priority on how we say it. Words have massive power. When we add grace to truth, there’s great beauty in the right word said the right way at the right time to the right person. (25:11)
3. FIGHTS AMONG FRIENDS
We will be surprised and hurt at times, in our friendships. This workshop helps you handle it through principles of conflict resolution. (18:24)
4. HOW TO BE A FRIEND
Learn the basics of being a friend from the great example of David and Jonathan. (I Samuel 18-20, 23, II Samuel 9 & 21)
5. CHOOSING AND LOSING FRIENDS
You’ve heard that “You are what you eat”. It’s even more accurate to say, “You are who you hang with”. You and your friends will rub off on each other. Choose – and lose – friends, based on what you should become. (12:26, 13:20)
6. GIVEN TO FRIENDSHIP
It’s great to have a friend. It’s greater to be a friend. Focus on being a friend who serves and encourages, seeking to give more and take less. (17:17)
7. A GREAT TEAMMATE
The realm of a sports team provides a unique opportunity for you to make friends and serve Christ. This pep talk provides coaching on how to be a great teammate. (27:9-10)
8- YOU GO FIRST!
You can benefit your friends by taking the lead in standing for Christ. Learn how to show the difference, in order to make a difference. You go first; others will follow. (21:21)
9. HE SAID / SHE SAID
Learn how to be friends with the opposite gender. This single session for both guys & girls will be taught by 2 people: a man’s perspective addressing girls, and a woman’s viewpoint for guys. (12:4, 31:1-31)
